Chien-Ming Wang’s success with the Yankees burned bright and fast. His trademark sinker had the weight of a bowling ball. He dared batters to give him their best swings, More often than not, when they did, they hit the ball on the ground for an easy out. Wang’s peak, from 2006-2007, saw him finish second in the Cy Young voting in ‘06.
A baserunning accident in Houston in 2008 precipitated a series of catastrophic injuries, from which he would never regain form. The club non-tendered him following the 2009 season.
Despite that, Wang remains a fan favorite, and in 2018, Frank Chen released a documentary on the right-hander. Tonight, let’s watch it together. We’ll use this thread to discuss Late Life: The Chien-Ming Wang story, remember some of his finest moments, and just hang out together.
