What are the Yankees doing?

As we move further into free agency and see some moves being made (Charlie Morton signing with the Braves for one, Yanks could have used him) I’m starting to worry more about what the Yankees are doing. What is their plan?

The easy answer is they’ve been very plain and clear. They have no intentions of spending any big money and while they claim resigning DJ is a priority, they haven’t shown that urgency yet. I’m not going to get into their finances (I’ve done that plenty already and wrote a whole post about stop protecting Hal’s money and stop believing the Yankees cry of poverty after 30 years of raking in the dough). But as we look at the teams around the league, are the Yankees really prepared to basically roll this team back minus Tanaka, Paxton and DJ?

As I mentioned in the beginning, Morton would have been a nice addition. He didn’t take a long or particularly expensive contract so the Yankees could have been in the bidding. There are a lot of rumors about DJ and he wants 5 years 100 mil. Sign the paper already! How could the Yankees complain about that? You got him for a steal the past two years and I could see them hesitate at 5 years 150 mil but 20 mil per season? Sign that man!!! The longer they wait I think the greater the chance the Mets or Dodgers say, that’s all you want? Sold!

Blake Snell is reportedly being shopped and according to the Post, they have no problems trading him in the division and are looking for the best deal. He has 3 years about 37 mil owed to him. Make the deal! He’s a proven guy and that’s a good bargain contract. Yeah, they want Schmidt and Frazier or Ford or maybe even Garcia. I still say do it. I’m not going to be wooed by promise when a CY Young award winner is there for the taking.

I’m open to a lot of possibilities. There is a lot available either through trade or free agency. They don’t have to go for these guys in particular but again, I worry the plan is to mostly do nothing. The Yankees have a good team but I feel like it’s such a shame that they’re not actively looking to improve.

What do you think? Would you be bothered if the team does nothing? If they resign DJ, is that enough to make you happy? Or are you more like me and want to see some actual moves made with intent to improve an already strong team?
