ESPN | Joon Lee: In a season unlike any other, Adam Ottavino decided to use his excellent camera to document photos of the many COVID-19 precautions the Yankees had to take to simply play ball, and how his fellow teammates coped throughout a tough situation. Ottavino shared his work with Lee and provided fascinating insights about several of the pictures. Photojournalism lives!
MLB.com | Thomas Harrigan: Remember how the Yankees were originally supposed to participate in the “Field of Dreams” game in Iowa last season? They were bumped in favor of the Cardinals once MLB adopted its geographically-based shortened schedule for 2020. Then, the game just didn’t happen at all because, well, what’s the point of doing a goofy promotion if the fans aren’t around? Well, the whole thing is back on for August 12, 2021 with the original plan of Yankees vs. White Sox back on. Now to just figure out this pandemic thing to make sure it’s at least vaguely safe. Easy, right?
FanGraphs | Jay Jaffe: The always-excellent annual Hall of Fame candidate coverage from Jaffe continues with a man loved by Yankees fans around the world: Andy Pettitte. He’s obviously a fan favorite, but there’s a legitimate discussion about his merits as a possible Hall of Famer, too. Jaffe goes through Pettitte’s entire career with the attention to detail that someone who watched it all from start to finish (as Jaffe did) possibly could. Although Pettitte is a borderline candidate in the end, it’s at least always nice to look back at the championship memories.
