It’s Tanaka Time in Boston

The Yankees (93-50) look to keep pace with the Astros (94-50) in the battle for home-field advantage as they square off against the Red Sox in primetime.

Masahiro Tanaka (4.42 ERA, 4.33 FIP) gets the ball for the Yankees. Despite his subpar pitching line, Tanaka has been one of the most consistent starting pitchers, not just on the Yankees, but in the American League as a whole. The 30-year-old has gone at least six innings with four or fewer earned runs in 17 of his 28 starts. None of those starts, however, have come against Boston, against whom he has given up 18 runs in only 4 innings of work.

Following two bullpen days, the Red Sox will go with former Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello (5.63 ERA, 4.93 FIP). The 11-year veteran has been having a rough season, and will look to get back on track for a team where every game is a must-win game.
