Game one at Fenway Park did not go so well for the Yankees. The Bombers dropped the series opener to the Red Sox by a score of 6-1. A combination of poor pitching and sluggish offense resulted in the loss on Friday night.
We’ll have a full recap up later, but in the meantime, here are some highlights:
Winner of the Game
Remember when Andrés argued that Brett Gardner may be having his most powerful season yet? Yeah, that looks like it’s a thing. The 36-year-old launched a solo shot in the fifth inning, his 21st on the season. That bomb matched his career high set in 2017. Gardner has been rock solid for the Yankees this season, hitting to a 113 wRC+. How cool is that? I hope he hits a few more dingers down the stretch.
Loser of the Game
The Yankees had a rough night on the pitching front. Domingo German allowed five runs over 4.1 innings of work. He registered only six swings-and-misses, which definitely raises some concerns. Nestor Cortes Jr. also struggled, allowing an inherited runner from German to score as well as an earned run of his one. Just one of those nights!
