There’s a week left in the regular season, and these two games are important for both the Yankees and the Rays. However, at least for the Yankees, there’s also a hint of looking forward to the playoffs. The Yankees are shaking up their rotation ahead of the ALDS, and as a result, Jordan Montgomery is making his first start of the season.
After missing nearly all of the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Montgomery made his return from Tommy John surgery back on September 15th. It wasn’t the best outing, but he gets a bit of a pass considering the long absence. Now a little more than a week later, he gets a start in a game the Yankees would like to win against a team that would really like to win. Welcome back, sir.
Elsewhere in the lineup, Gleyber Torres is back in. After a fall on Friday night that caused him to miss two games and get an MRI, Torres is hitting third and back at second base. With the off day included, he’s had nearly four days to heal up.
On the road to close out the regular season.

Yonny Chirinos will be on the hill for Tampa Bay. He’s had mixed results against the Yankees this season, but the last time he faced them, he was tagged for five runs (four earned) on nine hits in just four innings.
