What a great day for a ballgame. The Yankees ran up an early lead, got a terrific outing from one of their co-aces, and delivered an easy 8-3 win. Hard to beat that for a Sunday.
We’ll have a full recap up shortly. In the meantime, here are your highlights:
Winner of the Game
How great is it to watch Luis Severino pitch? Just seeing him on the mound after a long injury layoff makes you feel good. Watching him dominate? That’s the icing on the cake. The right-hander tossed five shutout innings, allowing three hits while racking up nine strikeouts. His stuff looked great, too.
Luis Severino already has 6 swings and misses with his fastball, which is averaging 96.3 MPH and has maxed out so far at 98.7 MPH.

He's thrown 20 fastballs -- so he's getting swings and misses on 30% of his thrown fastballs.
Hooray for Sevy!
The Yankees also had a big day at the plate, scoring eight runs on the afternoon. In particular, Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu, and Brett Gardner deserve mention for their home runs. I hope Gardy hits 30 this season.
Lastly, the entire Yankees organization deserves a shoutout for their tremendous CC Sabathia pregame ceremony. They thanked the Big Guy in style. We’ll have more on that later though...
Loser of the Game
It’s the final home game of the regular season, and the Yankees picked up an easy win. Let’s stay positive and skip the loser.
