The Yankees kicked off their final homestand of the regular season with an exciting victory over the Angels. Luis Severino made his first appearance of the year, and all went better than expected. We’ll have a full recap up later. Check out the highlights:
Winner(s) of the Game
At long last, Severino made his season debut tonight. The last time he pitched in the majors was October 2018 against the Red Sox. It was worth the wait, it turned out. Sevy’s first start went as well as it possibly could have. His velocity was normal, and he held the Angels to just two hits—and zero runs—across four innings. He walked two batters and notched four strikeouts. There’s no point in hurrying him along now, so the Yankees limited him to 67 pitches. It’s too bad that he missed so much time this season, but again, this is the right time to get healthy.
Back-to-back strikeouts to end the top of the 2nd. Topping out at 98.3 on his fastball (so far) #SevySeason has arrived. pic.twitter.com/9TsxY093u9

The offense was pretty much firing on all cylinders tonight, particularly in the fourth inning when Gleyber Torres hit a three-run bomb. That was his 38th of the season.
Loser of the Game
No losers to be found in pinstripes tonight.
