NJ.com | Randy Miller: Edwin Encarnacion’s recovery from an injured wrist seems to be going smoothly. He has taken batting practice with the team the past two days, and said he has been focusing on sending the ball the other way, just to ensure he doesn’t feel pain when he gets inside the ball. All signs point toward a rehab assignment in the coming week.
New York Daily News | Kristie Ackert: If you hadn’t heard, CC Sabathia is back on the injured list with knee inflammation. Sabathia has dealt with knee pain for years, and by the sound of it, it has become more of an ordeal than ever. He received a cortisone shot and had fluid drained from his knee, and the Yankees have maintained hope he will pitch again this season, but there exists a distinct possibility Sabathia has reached the end of the line in his major league career.
New York Post | Dan Martin: Aaron Boone expressed his belief that Giancarlo Stanton would still produce for them this season, after Stanton went through another batting practice session on Friday. Boone said he thought that it was “realistic” to expect Stanton to come through for the team at some point in September. Stanton appears on track to return sooner rather than later, as he should perform drills in the field next week, with rounds against live pitching coming after that.
New York Times | James Wagner: Wagner provides a detailed profile of top pitching prospect Deivi Garcia. Garcia’s size has of course led to comparisons to both Yankees ace Luis Severino and legendary right-hander Pedro Martinez. Garcia probably will never reach the heights of Martinez, and it’s unclear if he will contribute at the big league level this year. Garcia has had an interaction with Martinez, though, in the form of a whole Instagram comment.
