Wednesday’s series finale against the Mariners brought the Yankees some concerning news. Gio Urshela exited the game with a possible injury in the fifth inning. Didi Gregorius, dealing with a balky shoulder of his own, entered the game at shortstop. DJ LeMahieu moved over to third base while Tyler Wade switched to second base.

Urshela, 27, had a hit and a strikeout in two plate appearances. The third baseman has been a revelation for the Yankees in 2019, hitting .331/.370/.555 with 18 home runs (140 wRC+). Losing him for any period of time would obviously hurt. Hopefully it’s not anything major.

We’ll have more information as it becomes available. Stay tuned for updates.

Update: Urshela departed the game with left groin tightness, per the YES Network.

The severity of the injury remains unclear. We’ll keep you posted.
