Give the Yankees credit. They could have rolled over after the sweep in Oakland and blamed it on the West Coast travel schedule. Teams have nightmare stretches after flying across the country. It happens! Not the 2019 Yankees, though. They rebounded in a big way, finishing off a successful campaign with a sweep of the Mariners.
We’ll have a full recap of today’s 7-3 later on. In meantime, here are some highlights:
Winner of the Game
Do you know what Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge have in common? They both hit their 100th career home runs on this road trip. They both also went deep in this afternoon’s win. Sanchez pulled an offering from Justus Sheffield in the first inning, and it nearly sliced foul. The ball stayed fair, however, and the Yankees had an early 2-0 lead.
Judge, on the other hand, took Matt Wisler deep. His blast, also good for two runs, went sky-high to left field. That marks Judge’s fifth home run in his last six games.

The two Yankee sluggers weathered lengthy slumps this season. That they responded with huge West Coast trips to silence the criticism makes it all the sweeter.
Honorable Mention: Mike Ford, James Paxton, DJ LeMahieu
Loser of the Game:
The injury bug just won’t leave the Yankees alone. Gio Urshela exited today’s game in the fifth inning with left groin tightness. Hopefully it isn’t serious, because we all would lose if Urshela misses significant time.
