After a rough a series against the Oakland Athletics, the Yankees started their weekend series versus the Dodgers on the right foot. The middle of the lineup did most of the damage, with the two through five hitters slugging five home runs and eight RBI. James Paxton continued his second-half progress as the Yankees are looking for more consistency from their pitchers with the playoffs inching closer.
Now it’s time for CC Sabathia to get back on track after returning from the injured list. In his first start back he lasted three innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and three walks. Before landing on the IL at the end of July, Sabathia was already having trouble over his last two games. All together, in his last 11.1 innings he has given up 15 earned runs while surrendering a total of seven home runs. Long balls have been a problem for Sabathia all season, and against the Dodgers it will be a cause for concern.
Here are today’s lineups:

Pitcher Tony Gonsolin will make his fourth start of the season featuring a four seam fastball, split finger, slider, and curve. His slider is producing some positive results with a 52.6% whiff rate and xBA and xSLG both under .100. Gonsolin, however, only throws his slider 17% of the time. His fourseam fastball averages 94.1 mph and has a usage of 50%. The Yankees will look to jump on his fastball considering it’s his least productive pitch.
Today’s game can be seen on YES or FS1, or heard on WFAN or WADO. First pitch will be at 4:05 PM EST. Lets go Yankees!
