Cameron Maybin’s Players’ Weekend cleats are giving us serious 90s nostalgia

I wonder if Maybin’s more of a Quailman or Smash Adams.

Since joining the Yankees in April, Cameron Maybin has quickly established himself as fan favorite.

There are many reasons to love the veteran outfielder. He’s torn the cover off the ball, for one thing, hitting to a .301/.381/.505 batting line with eight home runs (134 wRC+). His Twitter game is second to none, and he always has a hug at the ready. He’s been so fun to watch that it feels like he’s been a Yankee his entire career.

Now you can credit Maybin for having impeccable taste in 90s Nicktoons. The outfielder will sport Players’ Weekend cleats that feature the cast of Doug and Hey Arnold on them.

As a 90s kid, I might be biased, but I’m willing to call these the best cleats since Players’ Weekend started in 2017.

I do, however, have several questions:

  1. How does Maybin feel about using The Beets for walkup music?
  2. Should the Yankees play an exhibition game at Gerald Field?
  3. Has he ever seen someone come down with a case of Dangerous Lumber?
  4. Does he have any suggestions to help me get over this writer’s block?

Maybin, rocking the nickname of Slim, will bat eighth and play left field tonight against the Dodgers. I hope he slugs one like Mickey Kaline.
