At least that series is over, right? The Yankees got swept by the Oakland Athletics, and have now lost four in a row. They’ve lost five of their last seven as well. Even great teams go through bad stretches, and this is one of them.
We’ll have a full recap up later. In the meantime, here are some highlights:
Winner of the Game
Earlier this week, Roland talked about how Gleyber Torres has established himself as one of baseball’s best young stars. Torres showed why on Thursday night, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and a double. He now has a 131 wRC+ on the season.
Honorable Mention: Aaron Judge
Loser of the Game
Masahiro Tanaka had nothing when he took the mound. N o t h i n g. It took him 32 pitches to get out of the first inning, allowing three runs in the process. He settled down and fired off a fine second inning, but coughed up two more runs before his night ended. Overall the right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits through six innings. Tanaka now owns a 4.68 ERA (4.44 FIP) on the season.
Honorable Mention: DJ LeMahieu and Gio Urshela had brutal nights at the plate, the infield defense
