The Yankees won a close one yesterday afternoon by a score of 6-5. In today’s Sunday matinee, they’ll seek to win this four-game series against the Indians. CC Sabathia was activated from the injured list and he will make his first appearance since July 27. Sabathia last faced Cleveland in early June. He hurled five innings, giving up four runs in an 8-4 loss.

Speaking of the IL, New York placed infielder Thairo Estrada on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.

Sabathia is not expected to go deep into the ballgame, since it’s his first start in over three weeks. Along with that, Aaron Boone will probably have limited options out of the bullpen. Tommy Kahnle, Zack Britton, Adam Ottavino, and Aroldis Chapman all pitched yesterday, most likely making them unavailable today. Fortunately for them though, the Yankees will get their big bats back as Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez are both in the lineup after getting last game off. New York has been red-hot in the Bronx as of late. They are 11-1 in their last 12 home games.

Mike Clevinger is on the mound for the Tribe, looking to spilt the series. He is currently 7-2 with a 3.34 ERA. The righty has pitched in the Bronx just once in his career, back in 2018. He hurled 7.1 innings, surrendering two runs and striking out 10 in that start.

Surprisingly, Jose Ramirez is not in the lineup this afternoon. He was 6-11 in the first three games of the series, including three homers and seven RBI.

The game can be seen on WPIX, streamed on MLB.tv, and heard on WFAN or WADO. First pitch is at 1:05 EST.
