After losing back-to-back games against the Blue Jays, the Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound to try and split the series and end their seven-game road trip on a high note. In his most recent start, Tanaka surrendered five earned runs and 10 hits in 5.1 innings against the Orioles.
Tanaka has faced the Jays twice this season. In 12 total innings, he’s been tagged for six runs, including four homers. However, Toronto is only hitting a .213 against the Yankee veteran. He should have success this afternoon if he is able to keep the ball in the park.
Gleyber Torres is back for the Yanks after missing the last four games with core muscle pain. Didi Gregorius will get the day off, so Torres will slide over and play shortstop. Austin Romine will be behind the plate, leaving Gary Sanchez as the designated hitter.
Wrapping up the road trip.

The Blue Jays will seek the series win, sending Trent Thornton to the hill. The Yanks have teed off against the rookie right-hander as he’s hurled a total of 8.1 innings in two starts, giving up nine earned runs and 12 hits. Furthermore, New York has slashed a .324/.405/.595 with a team OPS of .999. It’s safe to say they’ve had Thornton’s number.
