Afternoon baseball in Toronto today after a brutal game last night. Today’s game is the third in a four game series. The offense will hopefully bounce back from its poor two-run showing yesterday, and with a healthy Gary Sanchez back in the lineup, that just might happen. On the mound, it’ll be a battle of the bullpens today as Chad Green and Wilmer Font will both serve as openers.

Chad Green has been lights-out as an opener. In nine games and 12.2 innings, he has 21 strikeouts and a 2.13 ERA. Hitters have just a .699 OPS against him. He’s had a fair amount of success against the Blue Jays this season too. In just over six innings, he’s held the Jays to just a 2.70 ERA and recorded 11 strikeouts. The Blue Jays do have a .321 batting average against him but just a .679 OPS.

Nestor Cortes Jr. threw two innings in last night’s loss, and Luis Cessa threw over 40 pitches on Thursday. Look for the Yankees to go with Stephen Tarpley or Chance Adams to piggyback off Green’s start.

Wilmer Font gets the ball for the Blue Jays today, and like Green will likely be out before the third inning. Font hasn’t been having a great year. He’s sporting a 4.71 ERA over 57.1 innings, but he’s had some improvements over the last couple of weeks. In his last 15.1 innings, he’s struck out 18 and walked just one while maintaining a 3.52 ERA.

The Blue Jays are running out a very similar lineup as they did yesterday. Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are hitting 1-2-3 today. That’s not a pleasant sight for Yankee fans, but it’s something we’ll all have to get used to. These Blue Jays are just getting started.

Fortunately, the Yankees have a scary lineup themselves, and hopefully, they’ll have a little bit more life than they did yesterday. Aaron Judge played most of last night’s game, but he wasn’t supposed to. Perhaps he’ll improve on his 0-for-2 night now that he knows he’s actually playing today. Plus, Gary Sanchez will make his first appearance with the big league club this afternoon after spending the last couple weeks on the IL. Gleyber Torres is not in today’s lineup, but he did take on-field BP and some grounders prior to the game. He’s missed the last four games with core issues.

Here are the lineups:

Today’s game can be seen on YES, MLB.TV or Fubo TV, or heard on WFAN or WADO. First pitch will be at 3:07 PM ET.
