After two days of close games and extra innings victories, the Yankees weren’t able to get the job done for a third time. It looked like they were headed for extra innings once again, then Chad Green happened. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all. We’ll have a full recap up shortly. Here are some highlights in the meantime:

Winner of the Game

Aaron Hicks had a nice game. First, he hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the seventh. Trailing by one run, and down to their last strike in the ninth, Hicks homered to left to tie the game and keep the Bombers alive. Unfortunately, the tie game lasted mere minutes.

Honorable Mention: Brett Gardner

Loser(s) of the Game

CC Sabathia appeared destined to share Winner of the Game with Hicks. He yielded just one run to the Rays through six innings, but went back out for the seventh and got into trouble. With two outs, Travis d’Arnaud singled on a ball that Mike Tauchman deflected. That kept the inning alive, and Sabathia proceeded to hang a slider to Nate Lowe. The first baseman knocked it out of the park to give the Rays the lead.

Chad Green might be bad again. He got two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth, then surrendered a walk-off home run to d’Arnaud.
