New York Yankees vs. Arizona Diamondbacks: Masahiro Tanaka vs. Zack Greinke

Can the Yankees salvage a split against the D-Backs?

The series opener against Arizona did not go great for the Yankees, yesterday. They may have gotten a respectable pitching performance, but the lineup took the night off. That was a bit of a reverse from what we’ve seen recently.

Today, the Yankees will try to bounce back, but they won’t have the simplest task on their hands as they try to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Diamondbacks.

Starting on the mound for the Yankees will be Masahiro Tanaka, who is making his first start since allowing 12 earned runs against the Red Sox. His season numbers on the whole aren’t great, but he’s been mostly good against teams that aren’t Boston.

The Yankees were dealt a blow last night when Luke Voit left the game with an injury, and this morning he was placed on the injured list. Some shuffling in the lineup in his absence sees Edwin Encarnacion go to first base, Aaron Judge to DH, and Cameron Maybin getting the start in right field.

Zack Greinke will be on the bump for Arizona. Last time he faced the Yankees back in April, he allowed one run on five hits in 7.2 innings. That lineup was a bit lighter than today’s will be, but if Taylor Clarke could hold the Yankees in check last night, Greinke is certainly capable of it too.

Today’s game can be see on YES and Fubo TV or heard on WFAN and WADO. First pitch will be at 1:05 PM ET. Go Yankees, go baseball.
