The Yankees had a fun end to the Subway Series, didn’t they? The Bombers got their de facto ace back from the injured list and he pitched a great game. They also hit a bunch of dingers, and that’s always fun! It was a pretty good way to head into the holiday.
We’ll have a full recap up shortly, but in the meantime, here are some highlights:
Winner of the Game
Every time you think Gio Urshela has come back down to Earth, he goes out and has a game like this. The third baseman made three phenomenal plays at the hot corner and shot a laser of a home run down the left field line in the sixth inning. For a minute it looked like he injured himself rounding the bases, but he came back out to play defense. Urshela just continues to impress.
Bonus Winner of the Game
Domingo German’s return went about as well as you could expect, even though it started auspiciously. German allowed a home run on the first pitch, but settled down immediately afterward. He finished the night having tossed six innings, allowing the one run, and striking out six. It’s hard to ask more from the right-hander. Welcome back, German!
