Yankees Highlights: James Paxton clobbered again, pitching woes continue

It was another rough game for the starting pitching.

MLB: New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Another game, another disastrous outing by a starting pitcher. The Yankees have hit a slide where their starters have gone entirely ineffective. Let’s hope Brian Cashman can pry a starter loose on the trade market, because this staff needs reinforcements.

We’ll have a full recap up shortly,. In the meantime, here are the highlights (lowlights?):

Winner of the Game

Luke Voit spared the Yankees from losing on a shutout. In the sixth inning, Voit singled with two runners on, putting the Bombers on the board. That made it a 7-1 game. Austin Romine also picked up an RBI, while DJ LeMahieu banged into a double play to score a run. I guess they can all share the winner of the game designation for generating some offense.

Honorable Mention: Mike Tauchman, the entire ninth inning rally

Loser of the Game

James Paxton’s nightmare season continued on Friday night. The left-hander got pummeled by the Red Sox—he allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits with four home runs. Four home runs! That included three to Mookie Betts, who launched a solo shot to leadoff the game. Paxton now has a 4.52 ERA (4.28 FIP) on the season. Big Maple hasn’t been the same since he injured his knee, and it’s costing the team games. It’s so disappointing that he’s entirely unreliable right now.

Honorable Mention: Voit getting thrown out at third in the eighth inning
