Well, this was a topsy-turvy game. The Yankees and Twins exchanged blows all night, but it was Minnesota that ended up on top in this series opener. They attempted to rally in the ninth but came up short. We’ll have a full recap up shortly. Here are the highlights:
Winner of the Game
Most of the Bombers had a pretty good night at the plate, despite the loss. DJ LeMahieu singled, doubled, hit a two-run blast, and made a nice defensive play.
Honorable Mention: Luke Voit, Gio Urshela
Loser(s) of the Game
To start things off on a sour note, Edwin Encarnacion grounded into a triple play in the first inning...
The Twins have hit an absurd number of home runs this season, so they weren’t exactly a great matchup for CC Sabathia. The southpaw surrendered FOUR bombs before he was chased following the fourth inning. The last time Sabathia gave up four or more dingers in one game was back in 2011 when the Rays took him deep five times. Can’t say I’m excited for J.A. Happ to face these Twins later in the week.
Honorable Mention: Gary Sanchez
