We’ll see you shortly for game two.

I’ll keep things brief because we have a full recap and another game/highlights/recap to take care of. But the Yankees took game one of the doubleheader from the Rays, and it had plenty of fireworks.

Here are some highlights to get you started:

Winner of the Game

Gio Urshela has had a remarkable season. In fact, I recently wrote about how his rent slump-busting run at the plate made it seem like his breakout is for real. Urshela decided to make me look smart, going 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI double. He finished the afternoon a triple short of the cycle.

Many other players deserve credit, like Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez and Zack Britton. But I can’t write up this section without mentioning Aaron Boone’s incredible meltdown in the second inning. For real, go watch it. It will make your day.

Loser of the Game

Domingo German’s first two batters were pretty lame, weren’t they? He gave up back-to-back homers to Austin Meadows and Yandy Diaz. Otherwise, German settled in and pitched a fine game.

Honorable Mention: Home plate umpire Brennan Miller
