Regrets: Al Leiter for Jesse Barfield

What a debacle. Barfield was okay his first year with the Yankees, nothing special, got progressively worse and was out of the league in a few years.

Meantime Al Leiter quickly developed into an ace and spent the next decade-plus pitching like one.

That was during the era when George had no patience for young players and had a bad habit of trading our best young players for fading vets, about the same time he made the Buhner for Phelps trade too.

Everyone remembers the Buhner debacle, but Leiter for Barfield was as bad or worse.
