It’s no secret that Gary Sanchez has bounced back from his rough 2018 season in spectacular fashion this year. The Yankees backstop sits just one home run behind teammate Edwin Encarnacion for the American League league in home runs, and his .951 OPS is the third-highest mark in the American League, trailing only Mike Trout and Carlos Santana.
On this week’s Bomber Brothers podcast, Sweeny Murti of WFAN and SNY stopped by to discuss Sanchez’s torrid season, and why he is making a case to be the MVP of not just the team, but the American League.
Murti noted Sanchez’s demanding defensive position and his overall production so far this season when making his MVP case. Sure, DJ LeMahieu deserves plenty of consideration for team MVP as well, but Sanchez’s power numbers and the position he plays in the field make him a top choice for that kind of recognition.
Murti also discussed plenty of other topics, from what he’s seen with the struggling J.A. Happ of late to what he sees for Didi Gregorius in the future in terms of an extension with the team or a trip to free agency. To listen to the full interview and podcast, check out the link below!
