Neither the rain, nor the Houston Astros, were able to slow the Yankees’ roll tonight. Coming off a decisive sweep of the division rival Rays, the Yankees extended their winning streak to six with another emphatic win, this one by the score of 10-6 over Houston. The bullpen was shaky, but the Yankees’ bats overpowered Framber Valdez and the Astros’ staff. Not a bad way to kick off this four-game set ahead of the return of Aaron Judge.

Winner(s) of the Game

Four different Yankees took the Astros deep tonight, leaving with us a veritable stable of choices. FanGraphs’ win probability models indicate Gleyber Torres had the most impactful game, as his three-run bomb in the fourth opened up a 4-0 lead. Giancarlo Stanton had his best game back from the IL with a three hits and two runs scored, and Edwin Encarnacion was excellent, reaching base three times and slamming his second home run as a Yankee:

Loser of the Game

Chad Green had another great outing as an opener, striking out there in two shutout innings, but all his followers struggled. Nestor Cortes covered three innings, but yielded two home runs, Tommy Kahnle also allowed a home run, and David Hale gave up seven hits and three runs in 2.2 innings.
