With all of the hubbub around the Yankees getting their two best sluggers back in a few days and the impending arrival of Edwin Encarnacion, today’s game against the White Sox has kind of been swept under the rug. It’s an important game, though, as the Yankees look to avoid another series loss and the White Sox try to climb back to .500.

James Paxton will get the ball for the Yankees, and he’ll simply have to be better than he was last time out, when the Mets shelled him for six runs in less than three innings. With the team’s rotation in a dire state, the Yankees need their most talented starter to show what he’s made of and give the bullpen a much-needed low-stress day.

The White Sox will counter with Odrisamer Despaigne, who has bounced around for several different teams recently and is making just his second start as a member of the White Sox. He’s probably best known for his near no-hit bid as a rookie in 2014, throwing 7 .2 hitless innings against the Mets, but hasn’t been much more than an organizational depth arm since, going 9-18 with a 5.52 ERA since 2015.
