It was a rainy day in Chicago, but the Yankees were able to get the game in, and earned their first win of the series. They also pulled a head-scratching move and acquired Edwin Encarnacion from Seattle mid-game. We’ll have more on that later, but let’s get to the game highlights first.
Winner of the Game
It was a bullpen day, and that strategy worked out for the Yankees once again. Nestor Cortes Jr. had a heck of an outing. He entered in the third and threw five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, and zero walks. Then the Yankees tried to get too cute and brought him in to start the eighth for whatever reason. He gave up two singles, though one should have been an error, and exited. Both runs scored thanks to Jonathan Holder, see below. It was still a great overall outing for Cortes Jr. though.
Honorable Mention: Chad Green
Loser of the Game
Jonathan Holder. With two on and two out in the eighth, he allowed four runs to score.
