Yankees Highlights: James Paxton, bullpen shut out the Padres

Paxton was brilliant in his return from the IL.

MLB: San Diego Padres at New York Yankees Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

The Yankees entered today’s game in danger of dropping their first series of the month. Never fear though, they finished up the series against the Padres with a victory. This is their eighth straight series win. That is impressive. We’ll have a full recap up shortly, but check out these highlights in the meantime:

Winner(s) of the Game

James Paxton was activated from the injured list today, and shuffled right back into the rotation without missing a beat. Despite being shelved for a month, he looked fantastic today. The southpaw was on a pitch count around 70, but made it through four innings with two walks, racked up seven strikeouts, and didn’t give up a hit. In fact, the Yankees carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

The Bombers jumped all over Chris Paddack today. The rookie surrendered back-to-back homers to DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit to start off the game. Gio Urshela also clubbed one in the second inning.

Honorable Mention: Chad Green, Adam Ottavino, Jonathan Holder, Gleyber Torres

Loser of the Game

Almost Nestor Cortes Jr., but he worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth without giving up a run.
