The Yankees snapped a seven-game winning streak yesterday as they dropped the series finale against the Royals. They were back to their winning ways today, however, kicking off a three-game set against the Padres with a 5-2 victory. We’ll have a full recap up shortly. Here are some highlights in the meantime.
Winner(s) of the Game
It was a bullpen day for the Yankees, and all of their pitchers deserve praise for getting them through the game. Chad Green opened things up with a scoreless inning, then David Hale tossed four innings of two-run ball. Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, Zack Britton, and Aroldis Chapman shut down the Padres over the final four innings.
As for the offense, Clint Frazier appears to be back on track after his ankle injury. He got the Bombers on the board with a solo shot in the second inning. He also doubled in the sixth, and was the only Yankee with two hits under his belt today. Yes, the Yankees replaced him with Cameron Maybin in the seventh for defense purposes, but at least he has made up for some of those recent miscues by swinging a hot bat.
Honorable Mention: Brett Gardner, Gary Sanchez
Loser of the Game
No one earned this title today!
