The Yankees head into today’s action with an 34-17 record. They lead Tampa Bay by 3.0 games and Boston by 7.5 games in the AL East race. The Bombers need a win today to sweep the Royals and finish a perfect 7-0 on their road trip. New York sends Domingo German (9-1, 2.60 ERA) to the hill to face off against Danny Duffy (3-1, 3.45 ERA).
Pitching matchup
German has won six straight starts, and is looking to become MLB’s first 10-game winner of the 2019 season. The 26-year-old right-hander suffered his only defeat of the year on April 18th against Kansas City at Yankee Stadium. He allowed three runs on six hits over six innings, as Jorge Soler and Ryan O’Hearn took him deep.
Duffy is set to make only his sixth start of the year, and has won his last three. He allowed just one run on five hits over six frames during his last start on May 19th versus the Angels in Anaheim. The Rangers tagged him for four runs on seven hits over five innings during his most recent start at Kauffman Stadium five days earlier.
