Yankees Highlights: Gary Sanchez’s homer caps off late rally

Can Sanchez and Torres face Baltimore pitching every day?

MLB: New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

This was another rollercoaster of a game. J.A. Happ dug the Yankees into a very big hole early, and it looked like they wouldn’t be able to climb out of it. However, the Bombers chipped away at the Orioles’ lead, and a four-run ninth inning put them over the top. Here are the highlights:

Winner of the Game

Gleyber Torres LOVES playing the Orioles this year. He mashed a solo home run off of Andrew Cashner in the second inning, then hit a solo shot off Mychal Givens in the eighth. That brings Torres to ten home runs this season, and he has hit eight of them against Baltimore. I hope he hits eight more before this series is over.

You know who also loves facing Baltimore? Gary Sanchez. The Yankees tied up the game in the ninth inning, then Sanchez came up with a big three-run bomb to left field.

Loser of the Game

J.A. Happ struggled again tonight. The southpaw surrendered four earned runs to Baltimore before the third inning was over. He got two quick outs in the fourth, but the third evaded him. The Yankees had to go to the bullpen, but not before two more runs scored. Happ’s final line: 3.2 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2 HR. It’s not what you want.

Honorable Mention: Luke Voit not catching that pop up in foul territory.
