Yankees Highlights: Bombers have huge sixth inning, win wild game

What a game!

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

This was quite a series between the Yankees and Rays. The Yankees walked off the first game, the Rays won in extras last night, and the two exchanged blows back and forth today. The Bombers finally cracked the game wide open in the sixth inning, putting a whopping seven runs on the board before the bottom-half was over. We’ll have a full recap up soon. In the meantime, here are some highlights.

Winner of the Game

Pretty much the entire lineup deserves credit today. Kendrys Morales hit an RBI single early and walked to force in a run. Brett Gardner and Aaron Hicks both hit two-run homers, and the former knocked an RBI double during the big sixth inning. Improbably, Gary Sanchez collected the first triple of his career! Luke Voit walked to force in a run, and Estrada doubled to clear the bases. DJ LeMahieu also homered in the seventh.

Honorable Mention: Chance Adams

Loser of the Game

The Yankees sent Chad Green out as the opener, and it didn’t work out. He made it through the first inning unscathed, then gave up back-to-back home runs to Kevin Kiermaier and Willy Adames to put Tampa Bay on the board. He lost total control and followed that up by drilling Daniel Robertson in the front of the helmet.

Thankfully, none of this mattered and the offense more than made up for the shaky pitching.
