Yankees Highlights: Luke Voit homers, Aaron Boone ejected in loss

It’s time to head home.

The Arizona series didn’t go as planned, did it? For the first time in a while the lineup showed that it consisted of several replacement players. They did their job admirably, but it’s going to be a relief when the stars return.

Winner of the Game

Luke Voit’s on-base streak remained in tact on Wednesday afternoon. The first baseman has reached safely in 41 consecutive games dating back to last September. Today he lifted a solo homer and drew a walk. If he reaches safely on Friday, he will tie Mark Teixeira and Bernie Williams at 42. That’s pretty good company, isn’t it?

Honorable Mention: Luis Cessa, Adam Ottavino

Loser of the Game

Masahiro Tanaka also had a grind of an outing, as the right-hander allowed three runs over four innings of work. That included a solo home run to Ketel Marte. He labored for the third time in his last four games. Hopefully he will get back into gear soon.

Aaron Boone also was ejected from this afternoon’s game during the seventh inning. Tyler Wade appeared to be hit by a pitch, but the umpires didn’t agree. Boone had been barking at them all game, and especially so after a botched replay review in the fifth inning. That one changed the entire complexion after the afternoon. How MLB bungled replay review is beyond me.
