New York Yankees vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Masahiro Tanaka vs. Merrill Kelly

The Yankees look to split the series in the desert.

The Yankees will end a quick two-game set in Arizona with a matinee against the Diamondbacks today. This marks the final game of a 10-day road trip that has seen the Yankees go 6-2 so far. Arizona has enjoyed some recent success against New York; the Yankees are now just 1-4 in their last five games against the D-Backs.

The Yankees will turn to Masahiro Tanaka, who is looking for a rebound from his last start. Tanaka has been good this season, but he has allowed 11 earned runs over his last three starts, thanks to four home runs. He has never faced the D-Backs before, but he is 7-6 with a 3.35 ERA and 1.01 WHIP for his career in interleague play.

The D-Backs will counter with 30-year-old rookie Merrill Kelly. Kelly spent the last four years pitching in Korea, and has gone 2-2 with a 3.94 ERA over his first five major league starts. His most recent start was his best one, a seven-inning, two-run shutdown of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
