Yankees Highlights: Offense left their bats in San Francisco

Sabathia gets five strikeouts, offense musters just five hits.

Fresh off a three-game sweep in San Francisco, the Yankees headed to Arizona for a quick two-game series. Although it was a big night for CC Sabathia personally, the Bombers dropped the game and snapped their winning streak.

Winner of the Game

It has to be Sabathia. The big southpaw picked up his 3,000th strikeout, becoming just the 17th player in MLB history to do so. Sabathia backed that up with a pretty good outing, too. He held the Diamondbacks to two earned runs off of five hits through 5.1 innings.

Loser of the Game

The offense couldn’t get much going against Zack Greinke. Maybe they left their bats in San Francisco. It’s tough to win with just one run on the board, which is a shame because Sabathia kept them in the game. Hopefully they’ll wake up against Merrill Kelly in this series finale.

Honorable Mention: Zack Britton
