MLB.com | Andrew Simon: The Yankees may have actually caught a lucky break yesterday. DJ LeMahieu left Sunday’s win against the Giants early with right knee discomfort, but it’s not as bad as one could’ve expected for the 2019 Yankees. An MRI yesterday showed inflammation in the joint and he’s currently day-to-day. Injury news is never good, but this has to be considered good after the influx of injuries on this team. I still fully expect to hear that he’ll be out for the season sometime next week.
MLB.com | Thomas Harrigan: Congratulations are in order for Luke Voit. After a slow start to the year, Voit’s really heated up when the team needs him the most and MLB has recognized it. After a week in which he hit .433/.528/.867 with four homers and 10 RBI in seven games, Voit earned American League Player of the Week honors. He helped the Yankees to a 6-1 record last week as they continue to put the pressure on the first-place Rays.
New York Post | Kevin Kernan: Just last year, the Cardinals traded Voit for Giovanny Gallegos and Chasen Shreve. Now, with the Yankees barely fielding a Triple-A team, Voit’s one of the most important players in the lineup. Part of the secret to Voit’s success has been changing his bat to the same as Andujar’s which weighs one ounce less, which he did last year as well. Please take a minute to laugh at how good Brian Cashman is at these random out-of-nowhere-for-nobody trades.
