After failing to hold onto a lead yesterday, the Yankees have another chance to clinch their first series win of the young season. The Yankees and Tigers split the first two games of the series, and now we get the rubber match this afternoon.
To try and finish off the win, the Yankees will sent Jonathan Loaisiga to the hill. Loaisiga was officially added to the roster just today. He was the corresponding move when CC Sabathia was moved over to the injured list after finishing serving his suspension.
Loaisiga’s initial stint in New York last season was pretty good, as he had a 3.00 ERA in 18 innings as a starter in June and July. However, he came back up in September and struggled out of the bullpen, making his overall season numbers look less than great. Let’s see what version of Loaisiga we get to start 2019.
Elsewhere in the Yankees lineup, the batting order has been shifted around a bit. Brett Gardner is out of the lineup, opening the lead off spot for DJ LeMahieu.

Matthew Boyd will get the start on the mound for the Tigers. The Yankees have faced Boyd three previous times, putting up 14 runs in 14.2 career innings. The most recent meeting came last September, when the Yankees scored three runs on five hits off him in six innings.
