Jeremy Frank, who runs MLB Random Stats on Twitter, stopped by the Bomber Brothers podcast this week to discuss a number of topics surrounding the Yankees, including Gleyber Torres.
Torres, who started the season on a tear, has calmed down considerably, but Frank is not concerned. Torres, just 21 years old, has seen a spike in strikeout rate that is a bit concerning, but Frank believes this is a just a hiccup for a young player with a proven ability to make adjustments. He shared the same outlook for Chad Green, who he expects to see improve in the minors and return to the Yankees as a productive reliever.
As for Luke Voit, Frank noted that he has been one of the most valuable hitters in baseball since the All-Star break last year, but figures his current version of himself is likely Voit’s ceiling. That’s not a bad thing at all! Voit has reached base in 36 straight games, and while they’re not always multiple times in a game, it’s still a respectable streak that shows Voit’s ability to work counts as well as generate hard contact.
