The Yankees offense slept through the first half of this game. It looked like the Bombers might get no-hit, considering their struggles through the first four innings. Somehow, though, they found a way to not only tie the game in the seventh, but hit the game-winning run in the ninth. Here are a few highlights.
Winner of the Game
DJ LeMahieu had a blazing hot start to the season, then cooled down considerably. He came through when the Yankees needed him tonight, though. LeMahieu knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI double, added another run with a sac fly, and hit the game-winning run in the top of the ninth.
Honorable mention: Jonathan Loaisiga
Loser of the Game
This could have been a huge night for CC Sabathia. He entered the game six strikeouts away from 3,000. Unfortunately, he did not have his best stuff. He gave up not one, but two home runs to Andrelton Simmons. The game really got away from him in the fourth when he surrendered a three-run bomb to the struggling Kole Calhoun. By the time the inning was over, the Angels had a five run lead. It looks like he’ll hit 3K in Arizona next week instead.
Honorable mention: Gary Sanchez (four strikeouts)
