New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals: James Paxton vs. Jorge Lopez

Can the Yankees pick up a series win against the Royals?

The Yankees guaranteed a split against the Royals with a fairly easy 9-2 win on Saturday, but it came at a cost. Aaron Judge suffered an oblique injury and will seemingly be out for some time. He now becomes the 13th Yankees on the injured list.

That’s not ideal, but the Yankees have now won two in a row and four of their last five. They’re back to .500. The offense had a good day yesterday, so maybe they can keep it going. Let’s check out the lineup for today and oh no.

As well as he’s hit of late, if someone had told us two months ago that Mike Tauchman was hitting fifth in the lineup, I think most of our responses would have been “who’s Mike Tauchman?” Hopefully, he and Gio Urshela can keep up their unexpected recent good play.

A big plus is that James Paxton is on the hill for the Yankees today. If he pitches like he did last time out against the Red Sox, the Yankees won’t need to score that many runs.

As for the Royals, here’s what Kansas City is running out today.

This is the Yankees first ever meeting against Jorge Lopez. He’s gotten off to a decent start to the season, but allowed four runs on eight hits to the White Sox last time out.

Today’s game can be seen on YES or heard on WFAN or WADO. First pitch will be at 1:05 PM ET. Go Yankees, go baseball.
