The Yankees won yesterday, but it doesn’t feel like a victory. With Giancarlo Stanton and Miguel Andujar headed to the IL, the Yankees have nine players currently out of action. The Bombers are hurting right now, and their lineup shows it. But hey, the Red Sox are still in 5th place and the Yankees could get their first series win tonight. Things could always be worse, right?

Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound tonight for what will be his second start of the season. He got the ball on Opening Day and righted the ship after a few previous Opening Day clunkers. In 5.2 innings, he held the Baltimore Orioles to just one run while striking out five. As Jake recently pointed out, Tanaka’s sinker usage is going down and could be something to keep an eye on this game.

On the other side of the diamond, Jordan Zimmermann is starting for the Detroit Tigers. Zimmerman, 33, was a below average starter last season, but it was the best he’s been since joining Detroit in 2016. He threw seven innings of one-hit ball against the Toronto Blue Jays last week.

Clint Frazier and Tyler Wade get their first starts of the year in this decimated Yankee lineup. Troy Tulowitzki has the night off, so Gleyber Torres moves over to shortstop while Wade mans second base. Likewise, Austin Romine is behind the plate for a resting Gary Sanchez. First pitch is at 6:35pm EDT, on YES for TV viewers, and WFAN for radio listeners. You can also stream the game on fuboTV.
