A stress-free win against the Red Sox? Sign me up! For at least one night, everything went according to plan for the Yankees. They received a lights-out pitching performance from their starter, hit a bunch of home runs, and had one sterling defensive play. What’s not to love? Give me that every single day of the week, please.
Winner of the Game
Any discussion of tonight’s game has to focus on James Paxton. The left-hander shook off a few bad starts and tossed an absolute gem against the Red Sox. He logged eight shutout innings and struck out 12 batters. This was exactly the kind of game the Yankees envisioned when trading for Big Maple.
Mike Tauchman also deserves credit. He hit a RBI double off Chris Sale, then later crushed a three-run bomb against Erasmo Ramirez. Tauchman has received his share of criticism around these parts, so it’s nice to see him have a big game. Watching him get fired up after lacing a hit against Sale was pretty great.
Honorable Mentions: Clint Frazier. Gleyber Torres, Gio Urshela, literally everyone else
Loser of the Game
No one! The Yankees played a great game all around. Enjoy the night, everyone.
