Yankees Highlights: Gary Sanchez heats up, and not by putting on another jacket

Despite all the injuries, today wasn’t all bad!

The Yankees received some bad injury news earlier today, announcing that both Giancarlo Stanton and Miguel Andujar required stints on the 10-day injured list. That’s one way to start the season. On the plus side, the Bombers opened up the series against the Tigers with a win tonight. A full recap will follow, but here are a few highlights.

Winner of the Game

After much debate, Domingo German made his debut tonight without an opener. The right-hander tossed five scoreless innings—one unearned run scored—and recorded seven strikeouts. He did walk five batters, which could have been disastrous, but he somehow managed to get away with it.

Winner of the Game

No one had a particularly poor game, or ruined it for the Yankees, so we have two winners today. For the second day in a row, Gary Sanchez mashed a home run. Side note: he was charged with a throwing error, but that really should have been on Gleyber Torres. He just missed the catch.

Honorable Mention: Brett Gardner finally got his first hit yesterday, and followed that up with a single and solo home run today.
