At this time yesterday, Jonathan Loaisiga had a very slim chance of cracking the Yankees’ Opening Day roster. Then Luis Severino was scratched from his spring debut with rotator cuff tendinitis. He almost certainly won’t be ready to go when the season starts, even if everything in his shoulder heals as expected. We might see Loaisiga/Domingo German/Luis Cessa enter the rotation far earlier than anticipated.
The right-hander will get another look today as he squares off against John Gant this afternoon. Loaisiga has pitched well in the early goings, with three strikeouts and one earned run through his first 4.2 innings.
