Everybody, we made it through the offseason. Baseball’s back today! The New York Yankees will open up their season at home, against familiar AL East foes in the Baltimore Orioles.
The Yankees will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound today for his fourth Opening Day start in pinstripes. He has yet to win an Opening Day start, but he probably stands a good chance today against a weak Orioles lineup. Tanaka is 4-3 in his career against the Orioles with a 3.72 ERA over 12 starts, although this iteration of the team is a bit different.
The Orioles will counter by sending veteran Andrew Cashner to the mound. Cashner only went 4-15 with a 5.29 ERA last year, but is the Birds’ best option in a rebuilding year. The nine-year veteran has done well against the Yankees over his career, going 2-3 with a 3.18 ERA over seven starts, including a six-inning, one-run performance last April.
