The Yankees are on a roll. Sure, that roll is occurring in spring training, but a roll nonetheless. They entered today’s matchup with the Astros having reeled off six straight exhibition wins. Those wins mean nothing, but it probably feels better than six consecutive losses.
It appears the Yankees will continue to fiddle around with openers, today sending out right-handed reliever Jonathan Holder as their first pitcher. Holder has allowed just one run in 8.1 innings this spring, and is coming off the best season of his career in 2018, in which he maintained a 140 ERA+ in 66 innings.
The Astros will start Wade Miley. Miley garnered national attention with the Brewers down the stretch last season, helping propel Milwaukee to the doorstep of the World Series. He ended the year with a 159 ERA+ in 80.2 innings.
