As the Yankees continue to trim their roster and make cuts, we continue to roll through the exhibition schedule. Today, we’ll get another look at Luis Cessa as the Yankees head on over to Dunedin to take on the Blue Jays.
Cessa has been one of the sharpest players in camp, taking the ball three times this spring and allowing just one run across nine innings. He’s struck out ten, yielded five hits, and hasn’t walked a batter. As always, take spring stats with a grain of salt, but it’s certainly not a bad sign that Cessa’s started off this well, and he looks on track to make the team. Earlier this week, Tom took a look at why Cessa could actually be useful to the Yankees this year.
He’ll be opposed by right-hander Matt Shoemaker. The 32-year-old Shoemaker has flashed high-end performance at times in his career, but is coming off an injury-riddled season in which he ran a 4.94 ERA in 31 innings.
