Most Impressive Prospect - Estevan Florial

Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

The most impressive Yankees prospect this spring training is also their top rated prospect, Estevan Florial. Florial has raked to a .333 / .385 / .542 line in 10 games and 26 Plate Appearances. He has displayed the numerous tools that have made him off limits in trade talks over the last two seasons. He has displayed his speed going 4 for 4 in stolen base attempts. Florial also crushed an opposite field home run against the Phillies, that got Aaron Boone, and many fans attention. The bad is that he has struck out 7 times, which is a 27% clip, but that is not a terrible number considering that Baseball Reference has graded out his level of competition as AA. Florial has touched AA in the 2017 playoffs for Trenton, but still has less than 100 games played at the A+ level where he figures to start the season. The questions about his pitch recognition will remain, but if he continues to flash his power, speed, and solid on-base ability, then a 27% K rate is very manageable.

Florial is not the only impressive Yankees prospect this spring. Phillip Diehl is a former 27th round draft pick, who is dominating the spring competition, striking out 9 of the 19 batters he has faced. He has done this while allowing 4 H, 1 R, and 0 BB. Diehl has put his name firmly in the conversation for a mid-season call-up if the Yankees need a solid bullpen arm. While Diehl has impressed, he falls short of impressing the way that Florial has.
