Baseball is coming. The long winter is finally over, and spring officially kicked off with Grapefruit League games over the weekend. This year, we have two things to look forward to in the coming months: the start of the 2019 baseball season, and then in mid-April, the final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
In order to commemorate the final season, FOCO is manufacturing and releasing a series of of HBO and MLB-licensed Game of Thrones Major League Baseball bobbleheads. The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum is one of a few select retailers that will have these bobbleheads available for purchase. There will be a team-specific set of bobbleheads available for each MLB team. The series includes two-to-three bobbleheads for each team.
Obviously we here at Pinstripe Alley mostly care about the Yankees. So let’s see which two Game of Thrones-inspired bobbleheads the Yankees are getting:
1. Ice Dragon
I absolutely love the derpy look on his face.
2. Night King
Sure he can take down a dragon, but wait until Yankees unleash their not-so-secret weapons.
The third bobblehead that certain teams are getting is one that features that team’s mascot sitting on the Iron Throne. Since the Yankees hate fun and don’t have an official mascot, they won’t be getting one. Now we just have to live with the fact that the Phillie Phanatic will rule over Westeros while David Robertson presumably serves as Hand of the King. You can look through the bobbleheads for all the MLB teams here.
For those of you that have been around Pinstripe Alley for a while, you’re probably no stranger to the fact we like to let our Yankees fandom crossover with our Game of Thrones interest. For instance did you know that Dellin Betances is tall? Or PSA’s former Khaleesi and now SB Nation MLB’s Khaleesi Tanya Bondurant is not afraid to unleash Greg Bird on any opposing GMs who come looking for her favorite players? I’m sure you at least remember Carlos Beltran rising from the dead after the dreadful start to his Yankees tenure.
It should come as no surprise that there is a lot of excitement around the arrival of these bobbleheads. Last year, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame was kind enough to send me a few bobbleheads to review. Those bobbleheads were also manufactured by FOCO and sold by the Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum.
Preorders start today at the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame’s online store. The bobbleheads are currently still in production will officially start shipping out on a still-to-be-determined date in April or May.
